To protect 218-222 River Hills Road - Eagleby stands at a critical environmental crossroads. As the Coomera Connector threatens to fragment our landscape and destroy vital habitats, 218-222 River Hills Road remains the last significant green space in our area. We cannot afford to lose this final "green heart." This land is a crucial wildlife corridor and a sanctuary for local biodiversity. By securing this site, Logan City Council can provide a necessary environmental offset to the destruction caused by major infrastructure projects, ensuring Eagleby isn't left as a concrete corridor. Utilising the Environmental Levy reserve and general revenue to purchase this land Council can transform this block into a permanent conservation park this will protect our native flora and fauna while preserving the health and liveability of our community. Once developed, this opportunity is lost forever. By acting now Logan City Council can protect Eagleby's natural heritage for future generations.
Action required in response to this issue:
Acquire the Land: Formally negotiate and purchase the property at 218-222 River Hills Road, Eagleby (Lot 1 RP 809349) for the purpose of permanent environmental conservation and community use. Allocate Funding: Utilise funds from the Environmental Levy reserve and General Revenue to facilitate this acquisition, ensuring the cost does not fall solely on localised infrastructure budgets. Establish a Corridor: Formally designate this land as a protected Wildlife Corridor and Conservation Park, ensuring it is integrated into Logan's strategic environmental network. Offset Impacts: Utilise this acquisition as a proactive environmental offset to mitigate the significant loss of green space and habitat destruction caused by the Coomera Connector development within the Eagleby precinct.
