The below documentation is required for all applications for a community garden on Council owned land. These templates may also be useful to garden groups who are starting a community garden on private land.
Community Garden templates
Community Garden Management Plan
A community garden management plan(PDF, 104KB) assists garden groups with the effective management of a community garden. It outlines key items such as the garden’s objectives, management structure, conflict resolution, responsibilities, site management, partnerships and crime prevention.
Community Garden Development Budget
A community garden development budget(PDF, 79KB) helps garden groups plan out the financial costs related to establishing a community garden.
Community Garden Risk Management Plan
A risk management plan(PDF, 48KB) identifies any potential risks that may occur whilst managing a community garden and considers strategies on how to manage those risks.
Hazards to consider when completing your plan should include (but not limited to):
- injury
- safety
- odours
- noise
- possible theft and vandals
- parking space for public
- vermin / pests
- damage
- noxious plants and weeds
- disaster management.

Support for community gardens
In the City of Logan, community garden groups have partnered with local organisations to work together. This is another way to grow your local networks and support your local community.
Benefits of developing partnerships include:
- helping to build the community garden or maintain and sustain it
- delivering and providing informative and educational workshops or programs together
- partnering with local groups to support building garden beds or infrastructure
- providing opportunities for food rescue by picking up excess quantities of fruits and vegetables and donating them to local charities who support people in need
- cafés or grocery stores donating food waste or coffee grounds for composting in community gardens.

Active & Healthy
The Active & Healthy program is a health and wellbeing program providing free and low-cost activities in the City of Logan. Did you know that community garden groups could apply to become Active and Healthy program providers? You can deliver garden activities that make a difference to the health and wellbeing of the people of Logan.
KRANK
KRANK offers free and low-cost school holiday activities for Logan residents aged 5 to 17 years.
Community gardens can be creative playgrounds for outdoor school holiday activities.
Fun and educational activities could explore composting, recycling, biodiversity, environmental or nutritional programs.

Community grants
Council offers grants to strengthen the social, environmental, cultural, and economic development of the city. Funding supports a variety of projects, events and initiatives that meet the grant purpose, guidelines and criteria.

Logan Recycling Market
The Logan Recycling Market is a place you can get a great bargain and drop off unwanted items that may be reused and/or recycled. These items may be great for your community garden, such as using an old bathtub to create a compost and worm farm.

Council provides a range of resources, strategies and information to seek to protect, manage and enhance the biodiversity in areas of natural value in the region.
Our environment team provides some great programs including:
