There are a range of training opportunities available to Queensland school-leavers, including fee-free apprenticeships, traineeships and training for high priority qualifications for Year 12 graduates.

Skilling Queenslanders for Work helps eligible Queenslanders, including young people, gain the skills, qualifications and experience they need to enter and stay in the workforce.
The initiative is made up of 7 programs:

- Get Set for Work
- Ready for Work
- Youth Skills
- Skill Up
- Community Foundation Skills

Apprenticeship and Traineeship Funding (User Choice)
Apprenticeships and traineeships combine training with practical experience in a paying job. Apprentices and trainees complete a nationally recognised qualification while learning skills at work and under the guidance of a registered training organisation (RTO).
Apprenticeships and traineeships combine work with study, so you earn while you learn. As an apprentice or trainee, you'll learn practical skills at work, academic skills through a training organisation and at the end, graduate with a trade qualification or vocational certificate.
Subsidised training opportunities are available as part of doing an apprenticeship or traineeship.

TAFE
TAFE Queensland is the largest provider of vocational education and training in the state, with a history of serving Queensland’s communities for over 130 years.
Each year TAFE Queensland enrols over 120,000 students across a network of more than 50 campuses in Queensland, in employers’ workplaces, online and in markets offshore.

The Fee-Free TAFE initiative makes vocational education and training more accessible and affordable for Queenslanders, providing opportunities for individuals to upskill, reskill or start their career in high-demand industries.

Bachelor’s degrees are the most common qualification undertaken at university and typically take three years of full-time study to complete. They introduce students to general fields of study rather than teaching specific skills needed for specific jobs.
Undergraduate degrees are most commonly studied at university, although some private higher education providers and TAFE also deliver them.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in university may have the opportunity to join an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support Units. Check out your university’s website to see whether they have an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support units and how to join.
Did you know there is a Griffith University campus in Logan? It’s located at 68 University Drive, Meadowbrook and is only an 11-minute drive from Logan Central Plaza on Wembley Road, or a 25-minute train/bus ride from Kingston Station.

University study hubs offer welcoming and inclusive places to study and trained staff to provide support for tertiary students, or those considering further study, in communities where pursuing university hasn’t always seemed like a real option.

QTAC
The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) operates a centralised tertiary application service for:
- Publicly funded Queensland universities
- Bond University Medicine
- TAFE Queensland
- Australian Maritime College
- Some courses at publicly funded universities in northern New South Wales
- Some private tertiary education providers.
The institutions have complete control in determining their own entry requirements.
QTAC assesses applications using these entry requirements and then makes offers to successful applicants during their offer rounds.
As well as managing applications for the above institutions, QTAC publishes course information for some institutions that accept their own applications directly.

Enabling programs and bridging studies
Enabling Programs and Bridging Studies can help you get into tertiary courses and prepare you for study.
In a preparatory program, you study several subjects for various purposes, such as getting a selection rank and meeting a subject prerequisite. A number of institutions offer preparatory programs.

Single-subject bridging units will not get a rank but can be used to meet subject prerequisites and gain tertiary study skills.
Queensland offers a range of education pathways to support the learning needs of children and young people. In addition to primary, secondary and special schools, families can access alternative education options including distance education, home education and other specialised learning programs. These options can support students who may not be able to attend a traditional school setting or who require a different learning environment.

Scholarships and bursaries
Are you interested in attending a university, but struggling with your financial situation? Did you know you could apply for a scholarship or bursary?
Scholarships and bursaries offer some type of financial assistance to students to enable them to attend university.

Universities may also offer scholarships or bursaries to people who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Visit their websites or call them for more information.
HECS-HELP
HECS-HELP is a loan scheme for eligible students enrolled in Commonwealth supported places (at a university or higher education provider) to pay part of their student contribution amounts (fees). It cannot be used for additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks.

VET student loans
The VET Student Loans program is a temporary income loan offered by the Australian Government that helps eligible students pay for some VET diploma level or above courses.
Students interested in accessing a VET Student Loan to pay for their course will need to check the VET Student Loans (Courses and Loan Caps) Determination 2016. This list identifies courses that are approved for loan amounts and the relevant loan cap available.
Financial help is available for high school students to complete their senior studies and for students who are studying at TAFE or university.
There are 4 different financial assistance programs to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students:
- ABSTUDY
- Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme
- Indigenous Youth Mobility Program
- Study Assist.
