Open season on pesky mozzies
Logan City Council has kicked off its annual mosquito management program to help the community stay ahead of the summer surge.
Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water and thrive in warm temperatures, humidity and rain.
As well as causing itchiness and irritation, mozzies can spread diseases to both humans and animals.
Council officers are actively inspecting and treating more than 760 water-holding sites across the city, including freshwater breeding grounds in parks and water ponding in ditches or drains.
Treatments eliminate mosquito larvae before they hatch, reducing the mosquito population before it becomes a problem.
All products used are safe for people, pets and the environment.
Residents can manage mozzies around their homes by tipping out any standing water, which provides ideal breeding conditions for the pests.
