Dog owners asked to help keep pets safe
Logan City Council is actively monitoring a concerning increase in cases of canine parvovirus (parvo) across the community.
Parvo is a highly contagious and potentially fatal viral illness that affects unvaccinated dogs, particularly puppies and older animals.
The virus spreads easily through contact with infected faeces, or on contaminated surfaces such as shoes, clothing and dog bowls. It also spreads easily in public environments including parks and on footpaths.
Symptoms of parvo include vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite and lethargy.
The virus is extremely resilient and can survive in an environment for years, making containment and control difficult.
Dog owners are encouraged to ensure their pets are vaccinated and to remain vigilant for signs of illness.
Take the time to remember
Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place on Tuesday, November 11 to honour those who gave their lives in service.
The day marks the anniversary of the World War I armistice with Germany in 1918 and people around the world observe a minute’s silence to reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel to ensure the freedoms enjoyed today.
Logan City Council will host a service from 10:45am to 11:10am at the Logan Central Cenotaph on the corner of Wembley Rd and Jacaranda Ave (outside the Logan Art Gallery).
The service is open to the community.
