Major roadworks project scores award
One of Logan City Council’s largest ever road projects has received a Queensland award for excellence in civil construction.
Council contractor SEE Civil Pty Ltd completed the $83 million upgrade of Loganlea Rd earlier this year to connect the Logan Motorway at Meadowbrook with the M1 at Slacks Creek.
The project, which involved widening the road, adding a new shared pathway, installing major new stormwater infrastructure and upgrading three intersections, supports future regional growth.
The works were completed more than two months ahead of schedule with no reportable safety incidents – despite working in live traffic with 42,000 daily vehicle movements, no full road closures and coping with three flood events.
The project was recently awarded the Civil Contractors Federation Queensland’s State Earth Award for Excellence in projects in the $30 to $75 million category.
The national awards will be announced in November at the Australian Infrastructure Summit in Canberra.
Logan businesses go for gold in tourism awards
Four City of Logan tourism operators are in the running for the RACQ People’s Choice category at the 2025 Queensland Tourism Awards.
Voting closes on Thursday, October 9 and Logan residents are being urged to support the local businesses by voting.
The businesses are Beenleigh Artisan Rum Distillery, Devon Pixies, Distillery Road Market and Fun Over 50 Holidays.

Eyes on nature for national citizen science events
City of Logan residents are encouraged to grab their binoculars, phone and curiosity this October to take part in two national citizen science events that shine a spotlight on local biodiversity.
The Aussie Bird Count, hosted by BirdLife Australia, runs from Monday, October 20 to Sunday, October 26, inviting people of all ages to spend just 20 minutes counting the birds they see.
Then, from Friday, October 24 to Monday, October 27, the Great Southern BioBlitz kicks off, calling on nature enthusiasts to record any wild plants, animals or fungi they encounter.
By participating, the Logan community will help build a real-time snapshot of the city’s biodiversity from their own backyard, local park or favourite bushwalk to help scientists monitor species trends, track environmental changes and guide conservation efforts.
To join the Aussie Bird Count, download the free BirdLife Australia app or visit birdlife.org.au
