Logan grower recognised in national gardening campaign

Logan resident Doreen Jachmann has been recognised through the national Grow It Local campaign for her contribution to community gardening and sustainable living.

Doreen, the Local Grower Award winner, is the founder of Permaculture Connect, a Logan-based group that helps residents build the skills and confidence to grow their own food.

Her work was highlighted during the Grow It Local Community Garden Tour on March 30 at Yarrabilba Community Garden, delivered in partnership with Logan City Council.

The hands-on event saw locals join Doreen and Grow It Local co-founders Paul West and Darryl Nichols to prepare the garden for planting herbs, vegetables and flowers.

Council supported the initiative, promoting sustainable living and food waste reduction across Logan.

Using new tech to research the past

Workshop participants will learn how to turn research into their family’s story with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) in the City of Logan next month.

The session will be hosted by Logan City Council’s Local Studies team from 10.30am to 12pm on Wednesday, April 15 at Logan Central Library.

It will highlight ways to avoid common AI mistakes and demonstrate how to guide AI to create stories from existing notes and documents.

Bookings can be made by calling 3412 4100 or online via loganlibraries.org/

Take flight at Logan Art Gallery workshop

A workshop to produce artworks for an upcoming Logan Art Gallery exhibition will be held at Berrinba Wetlands this month.

The bird silhouettes with botanical materials workshop will run from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, April 18, with City of Logan artist Rachael Lee teaching participants how to paint a bird to be displayed in the upcoming Logan Art Gallery Where do I belong? exhibition.

Rachael will guide participants to craft unique bird silhouettes using ink and botanical materials on watercolour paper.

This project is supported by the Queensland Government through the Queensland Arts Showcase Program and the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Bookings are essential and can be made at lccqld.com/wheredoibelong
