Family history experts to bring the past to life
Experienced genealogists and researchers will share tips and insights to help people uncover their family history at the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct next month.
As part of Queensland Family History Month, the Family History Mini Fair will run from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, 1 August.
The event will feature displays from Logan City Libraries and guest speakers including local historian Denise Watson from the Homes of Beenleigh QLD history Facebook group and author and historian Coralyn Cowin sharing stories from her book featuring hundreds of local World War I servicemen and women.
One-on-one support will also be available to help people with their own family history research.

New program to provide funding foundation
Logan community groups can build their skills and confidence to access funding opportunities through a new program launched by Logan City Council.
Foundations to Funding includes free workshops, practical resources and support to help community groups, sporting clubs, schools or not-for-profit organisations groups become grant-ready.
The workshops will begin in early August and further opportunities will be offered throughout the year covering topics from understanding grants to writing stronger applications.

More space for nature in Berrinba
The Berrinba Wildlife Corridor is being extended to link with nearby conservation areas and create a larger, more connected habitat for local wildlife.
Logan City Council has purchased 1.6 hectares on Bardon Road to allow native animals to move more safely between bushland areas.
The site contains native vegetation and a creek connected to the Scrubby Creek catchment creating stronger connections between existing parks and conservation land.
The purchase was funded through Council's Environmental Levy to protect it for the future.
Logan Art Gallery welcomes new exhibitions
Two new exhibitions at Logan Art Gallery are shining a light on the connections between people, place and culture.
Running until Saturday, August 29, Inhabited: Anthromes of Queensland by LeAnne Vincent and It's a Small World by Daisy Hill artist Tegan Geange offer unique perspectives on how lives can be shaped by the environment and community.
The exhibitions are running alongside Where do I belong?, a major contemporary art exhibition curated by Logan Art Gallery exploring the beauty and fragility of Australia's native birds.

Logan based pilot project now showing in Canberra
A new exhibition now showing at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra is the result of a collaboration with Logan Art Gallery and artists and creatives from South East Queensland.
Thread: Connecting stories and community is part of a pilot project supported by the Australian Government to trace connections between works from the National Portrait Collection and locally significant stories.
Workshops held in Logan throughout 2025 and the artworks selected from them became the starting point for the exhibition first shown at Logan Art Gallery between April and June this year.
The exhibition, which explores the relationships between garments and the histories and knowledge systems of First Nations people, is on display in Canberra at the National Portrait Gallery until Sunday, September 13.

Program caters for busy lifestyles
Residents will find it easier to get active with a range of after-hours and weekend activities now available through Logan City Council’s Active & Healthy Program.
Council has worked closely with activity providers to increase the number of sessions available to better fit in with work and family commitments.
More than 120 low-cost and free activities are on offer to encourage residents of all ages and abilities to lead healthier, more active lifestyles by learning new skills and improving their physical and mental wellbeing.

Have your say on flood portal improvements
Following community consultation, Logan City Council has released its proposed improved Logan Flood Portal landing page and Property Flood Report.
They are now available on Council’s Have Your Say Logan website to view.
The community is also invited to provide ideas on other improvements to the Flood Portal and the Property Report that could be considered in the future.
The survey is open until August 23.
