Pedestrian and road safety improvements on Farrow Road

Farrow Road, Chambers Flat currently lacks a safe and continuous pedestrian footpath, requiring residents and families to walk along the roadside in close proximity to passing vehicles. Residents regularly observe vehicles travelling at unsafe speeds, creating a significant safety concern, particularly for children and families.

The lack of a continuous footpath also makes it difficult and unsafe for families to walk to the local park. Families living along Farrow Road may currently need to cross the road multiple times to follow a walkable route towards the park, including at busy and curved sections where visibility can be limited.

For some residents, reaching the local park can require crossing Farrow Road approximately four times. A continuous footpath along the southern side of Farrow Road would provide a much safer and more direct route, allowing families to remain on the same side of the road and only cross once when reaching the park.

This issue is becoming increasingly important with approximately 69 new residential lots being developed in the area. This development will bring additional families, pedestrians and vehicle movements to Farrow Road, increasing the need for appropriate pedestrian and road safety infrastructure.

We request that Logan City Council prioritise pedestrian and road safety improvements along Farrow Road, Chambers Flat.

Specifically, we request the installation of a continuous pedestrian footpath along the southern side of Farrow Road, providing residents and families with a safe and direct walking route towards the local park without having to repeatedly cross the road or walk alongside moving traffic.

We also request the installation of an appropriate traffic-calming measure, such as a speed hump or raised platform, approximately midway along Farrow Road near the small curve and adjacent to the new residential development, subject to Council’s traffic and engineering assessment. We request that Council undertake a traffic and speed assessment of Farrow Road, with particular consideration given to the curved section near the new development, existing pedestrian safety concerns, and the expected increase in residents, pedestrians and vehicle movements associated with the approximately 69 new residential lots.

Ultimately, we are asking for infrastructure that allows children, families and other residents to safely walk through their neighbourhood and access their local park without repeatedly crossing a busy, curved road or walking alongside moving vehicles.
