Residents of Beenleigh and surrounding suburbs including Eagleby and Mount Warren Park are concerned about the decision to cease accepting general waste at the Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility. For many households in these communities, the Beenleigh facility has been the most accessible location for the disposal of general household waste and bulky items. The removal of this service will require residents to travel significantly further, in many cases 25–30 minutes or more, to alternative facilities. Residents are concerned that this change may lead to several unintended impacts, including increased travel distances for waste disposal, additional pressure on other facilities, and a higher risk of illegal dumping occurring in local areas. Given the size of the population serviced by the Beenleigh facility, residents believe that the impact on surrounding communities such as Beenleigh, Eagleby and Mount Warren Park requires further review and clear communication from Logan City Council.
