We, the undersigned, respectfully petition Logan City Council to establish a dedicated Flood Mapping Sub-Community Advisory Group under the Logan Plan process.
Flood mapping has demonstrably become the most significant and impactful issue arising from the Logan Plan, evidenced by more than 4,000 submissions received by Council - the majority relating directly to flood mapping provisions.
While Council has undertaken some consultation activities, no dedicated advisory structure currently exists to ensure that those directly and materially affected by flood mapping are formally represented in ongoing review and refinement processes.
Flood mapping is not a peripheral planning matter. It has resulted in:
- Severe financial consequences, including substantial insurance premium increases.
- Impacts on property values and planning rights.
- Ongoing emotional distress for affected households.
Good governance requires that consultation be not only broad, but appropriately targeted where disproportionate impact exists.
We therefore respectfully request that Council:
- Establish a Flood Mapping Sub-Community Advisory Group as a formal advisory body under the Logan Plan/Transform Logan framework.
- Ensure meaningful representation of residents directly impacted by flood mapping.
- Include experienced users of the flood mapping portal and related systems.
- Provide representation from the Logan Flood Mapping Action Group.
- Include representation from the Logan Ratepayers Association.
Action required in response to this issue:
We further request that this petition be formally presented at a Council meeting and that Council provide a clear, transparent and public response to this request.
We acknowledge that this petition may be placed on the public record.
