The steep corner of Wuraga Road beside the Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility and the intersection with Tallagandra Road is an ongoing issue for local residents and those that use this road to get home further inland. A few weeks ago, another truck tipped over on this road. It has been a safety concern, especially regarding trucks or when it is raining, for a long time. In July 2021, residents responded to a survey regarding a proposed road alignment to directly link Wuraga Road to a new four-way intersection at Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road and Mount Warren Boulevard. Logan Council identified a preferred alignment in May 2023. This petition is to ask the council to make it a priority for funding and go ahead with the alignment. With every new estate that opens inland, traffic worsens. There is such a lack of infrastructure for the additional people these estates bring, yet nothing seems to be done about it. Yes, there are long-term plans like the Park Ridge Connector and the Southern Infrastructure Corridor, but even if these actually materialise, they do nothing to deal with an issue that is impacting us here and now. In the near future, the opening of the new Holmview State School will significantly impact surrounding traffic even more, which surely should make addressing this area a priority. Despite a 2014 upgrade, Wuraga Road was intended as a rural corridor and remains unsuited for a high volume of heavy vehicles. Safety should be a priority and this issue needs to be dealt with ASAP.
Action required in response to this issue.
Secure funding to progress design and property acquisitions for an upgrade of Wuraga Road between Prangley Road and Beaudesert Beenleigh Road in Beenleigh. Complete the upgrade as per the preferred alignment adopted by Council in May 2023.
