Upgrade narrow roads in rural residential areas

Rural Residential Areas have the majority of Logan City Council’s ‘Narrow Roads’. Narrow Roads have no legal basis and is a road that does not meet the minimum requirements under Logan City Planning Scheme or QLD TMR requirements.

In Rural Residential areas they are poorly maintained, with many not being repaired or upgraded since the amalgamation with Beaudesert Shire Council. There are examples of roads being under 3m wide for dual direction traffic.

QLD TMR have research showing that narrow roads increase the risk of accidents and has been raised with the Logan City Council CEO where no action has been taken.

These roads also often correlate with flood risk areas and bushfire risk areas, compromising residents ability to self evacuate during a flood or bushfire.

Action required in response to this issue.

Call on Councillors to direct a scheduled program of works to upgrade these ‘Narrow Roads’ to the minimum legal standards under the Logan Planning Scheme and QLD TMR Guideline.
