Toro’s Turnaround

Toro.jpg

Rescued from Cedar Grove in 2024. Released in August 2025.

Meet Toro, a young male koala who was rescued thanks to Debbie, a vigilant community member. She noticed Toro’s crusty eyes and contacted Wildcare, who quickly got him the medical care he needed. After weeks of treatment for conjunctivitis, Toro was back on Debbie’s property in Cedar Grove in time to see the end of koala breeding season (July to February).

You can be a wildlife hero like Debbie, by knowing the symptoms of a sick koala:

  • Red, inflamed or crusty eyes
  • Very dirty, wet or brown bottom
  • Signs of injury such as cuts, blood or fur loss
  • Very skinny
  • Not using all four limbs when climbing or walking
  • Sitting at the base of a tree or in the same tree for several days.

If you have spotted a sick or injured koala, call for help immediately.
