Reading and writing help

Do you need help with reading or writing? Or do you know someone who does? If so, please call us on 07 3412 4459. We may be able to help

We offer one-on-one adult literacy sessions available to everyone. Our trained literacy tutor volunteers plan and prepare sessions to suit each person’s needs. The sessions can help you:

  • improve verbal and written communication
  • create plans to improve reading and listening
  • improve numeracy skills for work or everyday life
  • learn interview skills and skills to keep a job
  • read web pages
  • read to your children
  • get a driver’s licence
  • prepare for the Australian citizenship test.

All libraries have a learning materials collection with material for people who need help in learning English or developing literacy or numeracy skills. The collection includes:

  • workbooks
  • graded readers
  • high interest / low skill material
  • computer software and audio visual material designed to improve literacy.

eLibrary

We have learning materials available for online access. To use these materials, you need to be a library member and have a library card. If you don’t have a library card, please register online or visit your local library to get one.

  • Mango Languages is an online language-learning system.
  • Road to IELTS (International English Language Testing System) provides users with 120 hours of intensive work on vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • Studiosity provides lifelong learning assistance by connecting adults to qualified tutors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Studiosity can be used for help with resumes as well as literacy and numeracy skills.
