Project overview

The final design to widen this section of Chambers Flat Road to improve safety and install major drainage has been completed and additional funding provided by the Australian Government to cover the rising cost of resources which has hampered progress of this major project

The project area extends from Park Ridge Road in Park Ridge, to just south of Derby Road in Chambers Flat.

Latest update - June 2025

Logan Water has started relocating water and wastewater services in Logan Reserve and Park Ridge to support Council’s Chambers Flat Road Upgrade.

The works are all in the road reserve at several locations between Derby Road in Logan Reserve and Park Ridge Road in Park Ridge.(see site maps 1 and 2  below).

Vegetation clearing will be followed by construction for approximately three months subject to weather and site conditions.

Works will occur between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday. However, some night works may be required at times. Logan Water will provide adequate notice for any night activity.

Logan Water will make every effort to minimise disruption to the community during these works. However, some localised construction impacts may be experienced at times including:

  • Increased levels of noise, dust and vibration. The site team will implement measures to reduce these impacts as much as practical.
  • Temporary water outages for up to eight hours (separate notice will be provided at least two business days prior).
  • Temporary driveway access restrictions at times. Logan Water will liaise with affected businesses in advance of works.
  • Changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits.
  • Truck movements to and from work sites to allow machinery / materials to be delivered and removed.

Not to scale.

Early works to relocate other services (including power, communications and gas) are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2025. Relocation of electrical infrastructure by Energex is the next phase following Logan Water’s works.

We will keep the community updated as the project progresses.

Why is the upgrade needed?

The upgrade will help to ensure Chambers Flat Road is able to accommodate future traffic demands.

Traffic is expected to increase significantly over the next 20 years because of residential and business growth linked to Chambers Flat, Logan Reserve and Park Ridge.

Chambers Flat Road currently carries approximately 19,000 vehicles per day. This figure is expected to rise to approximately 28,000 vehicles per day, a 47 percent increase.

If this section of the network is not upgraded, congestion and delays can be expected into the future as the volume of traffic increases along local roads.

Project timings

Early works to relocate existing services (sewer, water, power, and communications) are expected to occur in the second half of 2025, depending on the ability of the service providers to undertake this preconstruction activity, as well as weather and site conditions.

This phase is anticipated to take six months, during which time tenders for a civil contractor will be assessed, ready for construction to start early in 2026, pending the relocation of services.

Main construction works may take up to two years to complete, depending on weather and construction conditions. The main construction work will not begin until the early works are completed, and the head contractor is appointed.

Community information

A 'Meet the Team' event will be held for the community before construction begins, offering local residents an opportunity to ask further questions about the project.

Regular updates will be provided through our webpage and social media channels as well as participation in a mid-year community information session about projects in Division 8.

Chambers Flat Road and School Road Intersection Upgrade

The planned upgrade of the Chambers Flat Road and School Road intersection is part of the main project. It comprises installation of a temporary roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow. This roundabout will stay until School Road is upgraded and realigned in future infrastructure programs, depending on funding and planning requirements. The safety of our community is our top priority, and we recognise the urgency of addressing the hazards at this busy intersection.

Project features

To maintain safety as traffic increases, we’re making changes to Chambers Flat Road from Park Ridge to Chambers Flat. This means different access from some side streets, as well as:

  • widening Chambers Flat Road to 2-lanes in each direction
  • traffic light upgrade at Park Ridge Road
  • new traffic lights at Koplick Road
  • temporary roundabout at School Road (this will be removed in future years as part of the planned School Road realignment)
  • removal of temporary access driveways at Rural Street and Isla Street
  • East Beaumont Road to become left in and left out only
  • no right entry to Derby Road from the south, (across Chambers Flat Road). Motorists will proceed to the legal U-turn facility at Koplick Road.

Project benefits

The upgraded road will help to:

  • improve safety as traffic increases
  • unlock local bottlenecks for more reliable travel times
  • build a well-managed road network to improve access and economic opportunity.
