Yellow Lines and Residential Parking
Many residents request yellow “no stopping” lines but we often resolve these issues through our Community Parking enforcement.
Yellow “no stopping” lines mean you can’t stop or park your vehicle at that location.
Queensland Road Rules state that it is illegal to stop or park on a yellow line. Our Community Parking team enforces this rule.
Where yellow lines may be installed
Council may consider installing yellow lines in these locations:
- intersections with traffic lights
- high-traffic intersections without traffic lights
- areas with sharp bends or crests where visibility is limited
- locations where parked cars cause congestion.
Where yellow lines are generally not installed
- across or opposite residential driveways
- on slow quiet, low-traffic streets.
Driveways
Council does not paint yellow lines across driveways.
It is already illegal under Queensland Road Rules to park across a driveway. These situations are resolved through enforcement.
Intersections
Queensland Road Rules state that it is illegal to park:
- within 10 metres of an intersection without traffic lights
- within 20 metres of an intersection with traffic lights.
You can report vehicles parked in these areas for enforcement. If issues persist, we may consider installing yellow lines.
It is legal to park along the outer side of the continuous road at a T-intersection.
Missed Bins
Yellow lines are not installed for missed bin collections unless waste trucks cannot access or turn around safely.
If your bin is missed due to a parked vehicle, consider placing your bin within your driveway
If your bin has not been emptied after 24 hours, you can lodge a missed bin request.
