Alpacas and llamas

The table below shows how many alpacas and / or llamas you can have on your property. Enter your address in the MyLogan tool below and click ‘Search’ to find your property size.

4,001 to 40,000 (without Animal keeping approval) Up to 20 at a density of 2 animals per 4,000 square meters
4,001 to 40,000 (with Animal keeping approval) Up to 20 at a density of more than 2 animals per 4,000 square meters

You may need a development approval if you want to keep more animals than an animal keeping approval allows. For more information, please contact council@logan.qld.gov.au.

Enclosure requirements

Preventing your animals from being able to escape your property is an important part of being a responsible pet owner. Enclosures should be in a clean and tidy condition at all times.

Enclosures must not be:

  • within 10 metres of a neighbouring dwelling
  • within 10 metres of any premises operated for the purposes of the manufacture, preparation, storage or sale of food for human consumption
  • within 2 metres of the boundary of the property

General requirements

As a responsible pet owner, you must make sure keeping the alpaca and/or llama does not cause:

  • a build-up of animal faeces
  • breeding or harbouring of flies or vermin
  • damage to property
  • harm to human health or safety
  • nuisance
  • disruption to a neighbour's enjoyment
