A concealed leak remission helps reduce your water bill if you’ve had a hidden leak that caused a big increase in your water use. This policy is here to support you with unexpected water costs from leaks that are not easy to spot.

How to apply

You can apply if:

  1. You submit your application within three months of the water bill showing higher use because of the leak.
  2. You have a licensed plumber’s report showing the leak has been fixed.
  3. You haven’t had a remission in the past three years.

  2. Get your documents ready. You’ll need:
    1. A report from a licensed plumber about the repair.

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply?

You can apply if your property is:

  • A home you live in (owner-occupied)
  • A home you rent out (non-owner-occupied)
  • A unit or townhouse in a community title scheme
  • A property with a fire service connected to Logan’s water network.

Why can’t businesses get a remission?

Providing remissions to non-residential properties is financially unsustainable and would increase water prices for the entire community. However, we acknowledge that if you have a leak on your fire supply, we can review to assist with the amount charged for water lost through the fire service meter. What is a concealed leak?

A concealed leak is water escaping from the main internal property water supply where an occupant could not reasonably know of its immediate existence. The main internal water supply is defined as the underground pipe from the rear of Council’s water meter to the initial connection point of the main dwelling or building.

How do I find a concealed leak?

When do I need to fix the leak?

You must fix the leak within one month of finding out about it. The repair must be done by a licensed plumber.

What leaks don’t qualify?

Leaks inside your house or in pipes to other buildings or taps don’t qualify. Refer to the Concealed leak remission policy(PDF, 611KB) for more information.

Can I apply more than once?

You can only apply once every three years.

What happens if the leak affects more than one water bill?

You may get a remission for up to two water bills in a row.

What if I can’t afford the extra water costs?

Council offers payment plans to help you manage your bill. Call us on 07 3412 3412 or complete our Rates payment plan request form.

Will my water be cut off if I don’t pay?

No, Council won’t cut off your water. We’ll work with you to set up a payment plan.
