Abandoned vehicles

It’s an offence to abandon a vehicle on a road or in public place, or to park an unregistered vehicle on a road (under Local Law No. 10 (Public Health) 1999).

Abandoned vehicles are a risk to our safety. They’re often left in dangerous places and in a poor state.

When a vehicle is reported as abandoned, council will investigate the report, locate the owner and ask them to remove the vehicle. If the owner does not oblige, they may be fined, and their vehicle impounded. If the owner is unknown a notice is placed on the vehicle confirming its removal within a certain timeframe.

If a vehicle is abandoned in a risky or dangerous place, we may remove it immediately.
