Great Glossy Count Walk and Talk

Ready to learn how to locate and identify Glossy Black-Cockatoos (also known as ‘Glossies’) and their feed trees in the wild?

Come along to this walk and talk to learn all about these magnificent birds, from their unique identification features to their intriguing ecology. Take a walk through the beautiful Wearing Park to get a hands-on experience identifying the feed trees and habitat of Glossies.

After this walk, you'll be ready to join the annual Great Glossy Count from 16-17 May 2026. Delivered by Birdlife Australia, across the south-eastern areas of the Glossy Black-Cockatoo habitat, this citizen science event is a great opportunity to survey this local species and contribute to important conservation efforts.

Important information:

• This event is designed for adults and families.
• Recommended for ages 10 years and older with parent/guardian supervision.
• This is an outdoor walk in a bushland environment with uneven surfaces and unsealed tracks. Participants must be physically able to stand and walk through a park for up to 1.5 hours - moderate fitness required.
• Please wear fully enclosed shoes and sun-smart clothing. Bring along drinking water, insect repellent, binoculars (optional) and a mobile phone.
• You must register and secure a ticket for all people attending.
