Next date: Saturday, 24 January 2026 | 09:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Cane toad being caught in the dark under a spotlight

We’re calling on the community to help reduce Logan’s cane toad population and protect our unique biodiversity during The Great Cane Toad Bust!

How to get involved

  • Friday 23 January (or any date during The Great Cane Toad Bust): Head into your backyard or local park after dark for a night of cane toad busting.
  • Saturday 24 January between 9:00am and 11:00am: Bring your catch to our pop-up collection point at Berrinba Wetlands Interpretive Centre.

How to toad bust

Follow these easy steps for a toad-ally awesome night:

  1. Learn to identify cane toadscheck this online guide.
  2. Gear up – bring a torch, gloves or tongs, and a bucket with a secure lid.
  3. Catch them – head out at night when they’re active. Use gloves or tongs to place toads in your bucket.
  4. Count your catch – record how many you’ve caught and submit your data.
  5. Drop them off – place toads in a sealed plastic bag (max 50 per bag) or a container you no longer need. You can humanely euthanise them using the stepped hypothermia method or bring them live to the collection point.

How to bring the toads to the pop-up collection point

Please place them into a sealed plastic bag (a maximum of 50 per bag) or a container that you no longer want. We will be accepting:

  • Live toads collected from the previous night
  • Toads that have been through the first step of stepped hypothermia (refrigeration)
  • Toads that have been humanely euthanised from earlier in The Great Cane Toad Bust.
