As part of the Chambers Flat Road upgrade we will:
Widen the road to allow for wider 3.5m traffic lanes (while remaining as a two-lane road) and 3m wide sealed shoulders.
Improve flood protection along the road corridor by raising the road level and building a new bridge over Norris Creek (up to 8m higher than the existing level).
Improve sight distances at bends and crests to meet safe road design standards.
Improve intersection designs to allow for safer turning movements and enhance traffic flow. This includes providing dedicated turning lanes into Kings Way and Greenvale Road.
Install new road pavement and more efficient road drainage structures.
Relocate services, remove vegetation, install signage and carry out line marking and restoration activities.
Construction activities will take place in two stages:
an Early Works package
a Main Construction Works package.
Early works, including vegetation clearing, minor earthworks, service relocations and fence relocations are scheduled to begin in mid-2021. We expect to complete these by mid 2022, pending weather and site conditions.
Main construction works will begin once early works are complete. We anticipate these will take approximately 12 months, pending weather and site conditions. We will advise a construction start date once known.
The wet weather experienced from November 2021 to mid-March 2022 has delayed the completion of the early works, therefore delaying the Main Construction Works package from commencing.
Due to the flooding experienced in March 2022, Telstra and NBN had to reattend site and carry out repair works at various locations within the project area. NBN still has some minor rectification works to complete.
Majority of fence reconstruction works have been completed, with a small number of fences still to be reinstated.
Our contractor is working to finalise all landscaping works within the early works package.
Early works are now anticipated to be completed by mid-2022, pending weather and site conditions.
Main construction works will begin once the early works are completed and we will advise you of a construction start date once known.
