Discover who’s out and about… even while you sleep!

Ever wondered what happens in our parks after dark? From curious koalas to elusive gliders, Logan’s wildlife is always on the move, and you can witness the uncovering their secret lives.

Specialised wildlife cameras and acoustic recorders are installed in selected parks to monitor native animals and better understand how they use our natural areas. Why are we installing wildlife cameras and acoustic recorders?

These cameras and acoustic recorders play an important role in protecting and managing wildlife across the City of Logan. They help us:

  • Monitor native species such as koalas and other threatened wildlife
  • Understand where animals live and move, including key corridors
  • Identify pest species and pressures on native fauna
  • Evaluate project impacts by assessing how wildlife respond to habitat improvement works by comparing species activity across different stages of a project
  • Support evidence-based conservation planning

The data collected helps us make informed decisions to protect habitat, improve wildlife movement, and ensure the long-term survival of our local species.

How it works

  • Cameras or acoustic recorders are installed in selected parks
  • Motion sensors trigger cameras to capture images or short videos
  • Monitoring generally occurs from dusk to dawn, however some daytime monitoring may occur. Camera monitoring activities have minimal disturbance to wildlife
  • Data is reviewed by experienced environmental professionals
  • Wildlife image data and wildlife sound data is uploaded to Council’s database and may be shared to our iNaturalist project when appropriate

Logan City Council (or our contracted service providers) may collect your personal information through acoustic and camera devices if you visit a location where we are monitoring fauna activity.
