Influenza vaccine

The flu vaccine it free for all Queenslanders from 1 March to 30 September 2026.

The Influenza Vaccine is safe, effective and recommended for everyone 6 months, and over and is especially important for groups at higher risk of serious disease.

Nasal Spray Flu vaccine available for those aged 2 years to 5 years (inclusive)

Who is eligible for free influenza vaccine?

All Queenslanders over 6 months of age until September 30 2026 .

After September 30 2026:

  • people aged 65 years and over
  • pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
  • children aged 6 months to 5 years of age
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (aged 6 months and over)
  • people aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions listed in the table below.

The influenza vaccination is strongly recommended for individuals with the following conditions:

Cardiac disease Cyanotic congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease
Chronic respiratory conditions Severe asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, suppurative lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic emphysema
Chronic neurological conditions Hereditary and degenerative CNS diseases, seizure disorders, spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular disorders
Immunocompromising conditions Immunocompromised due to disease or treatment, asplenia or splenic dysfunction, HIV infection
Diabetes and other metabolic disorders Type 1 or 2 diabetes, chronic metabolic disorders
Renal disease Chronic renal failure
Haematological disorders Haemoglobinopathies
Long-term aspirin therapy in children aged 5 to 10 years These children are at increased risk of Reye syndrome following influenza infection

Book an appointment

You can book and manage your vaccination appointment online using Vitavo, an immunisation management platform we are using to improve our service delivery. You must register and make a booking on the Vitavo system to ensure you can be seen. While we do accept walk-ins, there is limited availability and if a clinic has reached capacity, walk-ins will not be able to be seen.

Using Vitavo, you can:

  • create an account and manage your profile
  • book and manage individual and family appointments online
  • provide digital consent during the booking process, which reduces wait time when you arrive
  • receive reminders about your booking, and future appointment bookings.
