Electrical goods Anything that runs on a battery or power cord is electronic waste (e-waste).

Never put e-waste in any bin.

E-waste can start a fire, or contain toxic and hazardous materials. It needs to be handled, recycled or disposed of correctly to preserve the environment and people's safety.

Why binning e-waste is dangerous

Throwing old electronic items away in general waste or recycling bins is a serious fire hazard. Any item that has a battery or holds a charge can spark and cause a fire.

Incorrect disposal of electronic waste can release toxic substances like lead and mercury, harming the environment.

How to safely dispose of e-waste

Bring your e-waste to any Council waste and recycling facility or find an e-waste recycler near you and place in the e-waste collection containers.

E-waste recycling service

We offer an e-waste recycling service where you can dispose of any item that is powered by a battery or power cord. E-waste is accepted at all of our waste and recycling facilities.

Examples of items accepted as recyclable e-waste:

  • Phones
  • Appliances such as microwaves, air-fryers and bread makers
  • All televisions - cathode ray tube (CRT), plasma, LCD and projection televisions
  • Computers and accessories, e.g. laptops, tablets, monitors, headphones, web cameras and printers
  • Power tools
  • Electronic toys
  • Rechargeable items such as vacuum cleaners, electric toothbrushes and shavers
  • Vapes - use dedicated vape bins at all sites.

If the above items are in good condition they may be accepted for resale at the Logan Recycling Market.

Items not accepted as recyclable e-waste and treated as general waste:

  • products that have been exposed to radiation and biological or chemical hazards.

Mobile phones

Mobile phones can be placed in e-waste bins at any or our waste and recycling facilities. You can also recycle mobile phones, batteries and accessories in the MobileMuster recycling boxes at the following locations:

  • Logan Central Administration Centre
  • Logan North Library
  • Logan West Library
  • Jimboomba Library
  • Marsden Library.
