Plunkett Road Black Spot upgrade

Detailed design and environmental surveys are now complete.

Timing for construction has not been confirmed as it is subject to a funding agreement between Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Project overview

We are planning safety upgrades to Plunkett Road with support from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.

The program was introduced as part of the Australian Government's commitment to reduce the impacts of crashes. Black Spot projects target locations where crashes have occurred or are at higher risk of occurring.

Project features

The design includes installation of street lighting at the Flesser Road / Plunkett Road intersection, as well as safety improvements at two critical curve locations, including:

• 3.5 wide travel lanes
• curve widening
• sealed shoulders
• line marking, signage, guide posts and pavement markers
• improvements to pavement levels and curve alignments.

• greater separation between vehicles on critical curve sections
• enhanced safety and driver comfort
• better visibility and guidance through critical curves
• installation of street lighting to improve visibility at the intersection of Flesser Road and Plunkett Road
• a safer environment for vehicles as traffic volumes increase.
