Plunkett Road Black Spot upgrade

Detailed design has been completed, and environmental investigations have been undertaken. Timing for construction has not been confirmed. Funding has been secured and Council is currently progressing contractor procurement to deliver the works.

Project overview

Council is progressing safety upgrades to Plunkett Road with support from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.

The program was introduced as part of the Australian Government's commitment to reduce the impacts of crashes. Black Spot projects target locations where crashes have occurred or are at higher risk of occurring.

Project features

The design includes installation of street lighting at the Flesser Road / Plunkett Road intersection, and road safety improvements at two critical curve locations, including:

  • 3.5 metre wide travel lanes
  • curve widening
  • sealed shoulders
  • line marking, signage, guide posts and pavement markers
  • improved pavement levels and curve alignment.

The Plunkett Road safety upgrade will deliver a range of benefits, including:

  • greater separation between vehicles on critical curve sections
  • enhanced safety and driver comfort
  • better visibility and guidance through critical curves
  • installation of street lighting to improve visibility at the intersection of Flesser Road and Plunkett Road
  • improved road safety for current and future traffic volumes.
