Exemptions

Residential properties

Some residential properties in Logan do not have a waste collection service as they are difficult to access or the house is too far away from the road. If you live in one of these areas, you can apply for an exemption certificate. This certificate allows you to dispose of a weekly amount of general waste that is about the same as what would fit in 1 large bin (to the size of 240 litre waste bin) at our waste facilities for free.

If you don't receive a waste collection service and want an exemption, please:

The list of houses eligible for this certificate may change over time as urban areas grow or roads are improved.

Community organisations

Waste disposal exemptions

We value the work of local services in Logan and support them by reducing waste disposal charges.

Eligible organisations operating within Logan can apply for up to $2,000 to use towards waste disposal (tipping fees) at our facilities. You may be eligible to apply for a waste disposal exemption if your organisation is one of the following:

  • a community organisation
  • a community-based sporting group
  • an eligible charity
  • a state school.

Once the budget for waste disposal exemptions is exhausted, we will no longer be able to accept or approve further applications. Please note that your exemption may be subject to cancellation at any time.

How to apply

To apply for a waste disposal exemption, fill out our online form at least 5 business days before your waste needs to be disposed. This will give us enough time to arrange a waste disposal exemption letter for your organisation.

If your application is approved, the following conditions will apply:

  • You will be issued with a waste disposal exemption letter with a QR code which you will need to show to Council staff when disposing of waste. QR codes that are unable to be read due to poor condition will not be eligible for free disposal.
  • Waste disposal exemption letters expire on 30 June in the financial year that it is issued or when the amount is expended, whichever comes first. You will need to reapply each financial year.
  • The waste disposal exemption letter is valid for nominated vehicle registrations only. Additional vehicle registration numbers will need to be approved in writing at least 5 business days before the exemption can be used.
  • You must notify Council if a vehicle registration number needs to be removed from your organisation’s waste exemption. Please allow 5 business days for your request to be processed.
  • You cannot use this exemption to dispose of dead animals, asbestos, tyres, hazardous waste or any other materials determined by the Waste and Resource Recovery Branch Manager.
  • This exemption can only be used to dispose of waste generated by your organisation.
  • Council encourages organisations to follow sustainable practices by separating recycling items from general waste loads and using the recycling services at our waste facilities. Please follow the guidance of Council’s recycling officers.
